History & Mission

Who We Are

Located in the heart of downtown Orlando, Mad Cow Theatre produces compelling works of theatre for a wide-range of audiences Mad Cow has a passion for both classic and contemporary plays and musicals from the best of American and world literature. Our goal is to create experiences that are distinctive, innovative, memorable, and of the highest quality – experiences that inspire in people a zest for living.

Mad Cow Theatre was founded in 1997 on the belief that theatre is a dynamic and powerful means of social understanding as well as a hugely entertaining art form.

You're probably wondering how Mad Cow Theatre got it's name! Well the founding members were together at an Olive Garden (the one that used to be next door to our current location) having dinner. They all knew they wanted to put on a show for the community, but they needed a name to do so. Two founding members had a farming background and the late 90’s was a time when animals where very prominent in business and theatre names, someone put it out on the table, and Mad Cow stuck.

Mission

Mad Cow's mission is to produce highly entertaining works of theatre to an ever-widening audience – promoting, enhancing, and celebrating the human condition through art.

We celebrate the word and the actor through a combination of passionate, skillful acting and compelling, insightful writing, all nurtured by an attentive and ever-changing process.

Performance Spaces

Located in the Church Street District in the heart of downtown Orlando, Mad Cow Theatre is home to two performance spaces: the intimate Zehngebot-Stonerock black box theatre, which houses our smaller productions and events, and the Harriett, a 150-seat theatre where we produce plays and musicals. Both spaces, as well as our lobby space, are also available for private event rentals.
