COWS COMING HOME ALL OVER CENTRAL FLORIDA!

MAD COW THEATRE PRESENTS ITS THIRD UNCONVENTIONAL SEASON BY "TAKING IT ON THE ROAD"

The much-acclaimed MAD COW Theatre has a passion for thought-provoking scripts and powerful, no-holds-barred acting. During its past two seasons, MAD COW audiences have experienced the finest in contemporary theatre in an intimate setting, with compelling and powerful plays by Harold Pinter, Sam Shepard, Athol Fugard and Lanford Wilson.

Now, for its third season, MAD COW is heading off into new pastures, exploring some of the greatest plays of the past 100 years. The works of Oscar Wilde, Tennessee Williams, Eugene Ionesco, and Anton Chekhov are featured. Productions will take place in sites specifically chosen for each production, with dates announced well in advance.

MAD COW will present WILDE ON WILDE, written by and starring Rick Stanley, as part of the Central Florida Theatre Alliance’s "Go Wilde Festival". Compiled from his collected letters and essays, WILDE ON WILDE explores Wilde’s renowned wit and unexpected humility. WILDE ON WILDE will appear in mid October, in time for Oscar’s birthday.

Trudy Bruner will take the director’s chair for a production of Tennessee Williams' delicate masterpiece THE GLASS MENAGERIE. Williams’ intimate and loving portrait of a Southern family perfectly suits MAD COW’s intense, honest style.

Eugene Ionesco’s THE CHAIRS has been praised and damned and relegated to the box marked "Theatre of the Absurd". It remains, however, an existentialist masterpiece, a "tragic farce", and recently enjoyed a triumphant run on Broadway. In a production directed by Rick Stanley, MAD COW dusts off this rebellious relic and shows just how contemporary it is.

For the first time, MAD COW will participate in the Orlando Fringe Festival (pending acceptance) with an original production of Oscar Wilde’s THE BALLAD OF READING GAOL . Alan Bruun will adapt and stage this powerful poem.

At the heart of the season is THE CHEKHOV PROJECT. Throughout this year and under the direction of Alan Bruun, MAD COW will enter into a laboratory workshop centering on Anton Chekhov’s THE CHERRY ORCHARD. Through months of research, improvisation, exploration and cooperation, a group of actors, stage managers, designers, and technicians will search for the core of this great work. From time to time THE CHEKHOV PROJECT will emerge to do a series of public workshops, testing what has been learned in front of a live audience. THE CHEKHOV PROJECT will culminate in performances of THE CHERRY ORCHARD in the fall of 2000.

Due to the site-specific nature of the productions, schedules and locations are tentative. Stay connected to Mad Cow by subscribing to our Mad Cow newsletter. Send an email to [email protected] with SUBSCRIBE in the subject line.
