Ghosts is one of the most remarkable and disturbing plays of Henrik Ibsen, the Norwegian playwright who is the father of modern drama. Set in a repressive, highly structured society, Ghosts is a tragedy of secrets and lies as a mother tries to protect her son from the sins of his father. Like Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard, Ghosts examines the social landscape through rich characters in a splendid and sensual story. Similar to The Chekhov Project in 1999-2000, Ghosts will have a prolonged pre-rehearsal period in which the history, society, family life, religion, and politics of the time (1881) will be researched and developed, followed by a five-week rehearsal period beginning in early May. |
